Children and Families Act 2014 in effect from today
Today marks the day that The Children and Families Act 2014 comes into effect. Part 3 of the Children and Families Act establishes a new system for disabled children and young people and those with SEN.
There is greater emphasis on young people having choice and control over their lives and support, with professionals across education, health and care working together to help them achieve their aspirations for the future. For young people preparing for adulthood there will be a particular focus on employment, independent living, health and community participation.
To ensure young people and their families understand how the changes might impact them, the Preparing for Adulthood programme has a wide range of resources available here.
