The engagement and participation of children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), and their parent carers is at the heart of current legislation and guidance. This Learning Example is from Dudley, Hertfordshire, Kingston and Richmond and Leeds, who have been working on the strategic engagement of young people and their parent carers as part of their work as PfA demonstration sites.
As part of the PfA demonstration sites, Cheshire West and Chester and Newcastle upon Tyne have been developing their practice in relation to personalisation and Personal Budgets. For those children and young people with Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans there is a right to request a Personal Budget. In order for Personal Budgets to be most effective they need to be considered alongside joint commissioning across education, health and care.
