The engagement and participation of children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), and their parent carers is at the heart of current legislation and guidance. This Learning Example is from Dudley, Hertfordshire, Kingston and Richmond and Leeds, who have been working on the strategic engagement of young people and their parent carers as part of their work as PfA demonstration sites.

The National Children's Bureau (NCB) have published a collection of essays titled: Involving Children and Young People in Policy, Practice and Research.

These look at how children and young people can actively participate in the development of government policy and legislation, and how professionals, such as social workers, nursery staff, and researchers, can involve them in their work.
