Resources and Information about COVID-19

The PfA team has gathered some useful links to resources and information about the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.  This page will be regularly updated, and more links will be added as advice changes and creative ideas are shared.   

Guidance and support from CDC: the Council for disabled children has compiled an extensive list of links to government advice, general information, support for families and disabled children and young people, ideas for those working with a child/children at home, and guidance for practitioners (health, social care, and education).

Health Education England Resources: HEE’s national library and knowledge service has collated coronavirus information resources for specific patient groups and the public: Coronavirus resources for children and young people and Coronavirus resources in accessible formats.

Open letter from the Children and Families Minister: the Children and Families Minister, Vicky Ford, wrote an open letter to children and young people with SEND, their families, and the sector, to thank them and give an update on the action being taken to protect them at this challenging time.

Joint Ministerial Letter: outlining temporary changes to the law on education, health and care needs assessments and plans due to coronavirus.

North West SEND Regional Network newsletters: their regular newsletters for children, families, and practitioners contain a range of useful links about COVID-19, inclusive resources, activities, and learning at home.

Autistic people and coronavirus: how people might manage change, or be supported to manage change during this time. 

Easy read and support resources about COVID-19: a number of local areas are putting together information for children and young people with SEND and their families about the global crisis; this is Kingston and Richmond's Local Offer.

Coping with the Virus: Beyond Words has produced several, free picture stories and illustrated guides to support people with learning disabilities and autism through the coronavirus pandemic.

Beating the Virus video: a creative response to Beyond’s Words illustrated story, this video was created by Gloucestershire Council to explain the virus and how to properly wash your hands.

Finding Your Future campaign: DFN Foundation and National SEND Employment Forum have joined forces to support young people with learning disabilities to remain focused on employment through UK lockdown.  Subscribe to this Youtube channel for daily motivational videos.

Free Information Book: Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler has illustrated a digital book for primary school age children about the coronavirus and the measures taken to control it.
